Engineering Architecture & High-Output Dual-Intensity Performance
The MIDCARS 1157-45L is an industrial-grade dual-contact BAY15d (P21/5W ECE) LED signaling bulb engineered for maximum lumen density and instant illumination in automotive, heavy commercial, and industrial vehicle applications. Featuring an optimized 45-emitter SMD 2835 matrix mounted on a precision CNC-machined 6063-T5 aluminum heat-sink body, this bulb provides true 360-degree cylindrical light emission with an intense 500-lumen brake light output and a calibrated 60-lumen tail/running light mode.
Dual-Intensity Optical Calibration
Dual-intensity optical calibration delivers an unmistakable brake-vs-tail contrast, ensuring instant driver recognition without the washed-out signaling common in single-level LEDs.
Compact Optical Profile
Ultra-slim profile drops seamlessly into shallow motorcycle reflector housings and compact automotive tail assemblies without clearance friction.
Direct Air-Cooled Open-Frame Architecture
Open-frame architecture allows direct airflow dissipation over the solid aluminum core, preventing junction thermal runaway.
Industrial Discrete Voltages
Dedicated solid-state driver configurations supporting 6-15V DC, 12-30V DC, and 48-85V DC for electric forklifts.
Precision Dimensional Blueprint & Multi-Base Series Comparison
The 1157-45L belongs to our high-output 45L signaling family. Below are the exact engineering blueprints comparing all three base configurations in this series (BAY15d dual-contact offset-pin, BAU15s offset-pin single-contact, and BA15s single-contact straight-pin):
1157 BAY15d (P21/5W This Model)
1156 BAU15s (PY21W 150° Pin)
1156 BA15s (P21W Straight Pin)
CANBus Load Resistor Installation Guidelines
Because LED technology consumes significantly less power than traditional incandescent bulbs (0.8W tail / 5.0W brake vs 5W/21W halogen), sensitive vehicle Body Control Modules (BCM) or electronic flasher circuits may occasionally trigger a bulb-out warning or fast flashing on certain passenger vehicles.
The 1157-45L is engineered with a high-efficiency solid-state circuit without built-in power-wasting dummy load resistors, maintaining cool operating temperatures and a true 50,000-hour LED lifespan. For vehicles equipped with sensitive CANBus bulb-out detection systems, installing an external gold aluminum housed load resistor across the high-intensity brake circuit is recommended:
• 12V Electrical Systems: Connect a 25W 10 Ohm gold aluminum load resistor in parallel with the high-intensity brake light circuit.
• 24V Commercial / Heavy-Duty Vehicles: Connect a 25W 27 Ohm gold aluminum load resistor in parallel with the high-intensity brake light circuit.
• Industrial Forklifts & Electric Equipment (48V-85V): Typically operate on independent relay/PLC circuits without CANBus bulb-out sensing, allowing direct plug-and-play installation without external resistors.
Note: Only connect load resistors across the intermittent brake light circuit; do not wire load resistors directly across continuous tail/running circuits to prevent unnecessary heat buildup.
Industrial & Heavy-Duty Equipment Applications
Beyond automotive brake and tail lighting, the 1157-45L is specifically designed to meet the extreme demands of industrial materials handling and commercial vehicle fleets:
Heavy-Duty Material Handling & Electric Forklifts
Electric forklifts and reach trucks (Toyota, Linde, Hyster, Crown, Clark) commonly run on 48V, 72V, or 80V DC traction battery systems. Standard 12V automotive LED bulbs fail instantly under these voltages. The 1157-45L features an optional dedicated 48-85V DC circuit capable of enduring continuous charging spikes up to 90V DC while providing brilliant rear brake and reverse signal illumination inside high-bay warehouses.
Commercial Fleet & Trailer Transport
With a moisture-resistant anodized aluminum body and solid-state SMD emitters, this bulb withstands rough road washboard vibration and repeated chassis shock that frequently breaks fragile tungsten filaments in conventional 1157 bulbs.
